San Luis

"San Luis" is an ongoing project that portrays the controversial yet deep cultural attachment of the Dominican Gagá and its relationship with the traditional music, dances, rituals, costumes and religious beliefs, within the community of San Luis in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. A tradition that is protected, followed, and kept alive by its guardians in the different "bateyes" of the island and historically shared with our neighbor country Haiti. A tradition also rejected by many under pretenses of religious or racial discrimination.
